Department of Home Economics

The Department of Home Economics at Lok Mahavidyalaya, Wardha, has been functioning since the establishment of the college, offering Undergraduate (UG) education through the B.A. in Home Economics programme since its inception. The department is committed to providing quality education and promoting the holistic development of students. It aims to develop students’ understanding of nutrition, health and hygiene, human development, family resource management, textiles and clothing, food science, consumer awareness, and family and community welfare.

The department undertakes various academic, co-curricular, and practical learning activities to enhance students’ knowledge, practical skills, creativity, and decision-making abilities. These include the establishment of the Home Economics Study Circle, bridge courses for newly admitted students, remedial coaching for slow learners, academic support for advanced learners, assignments, seminars, PowerPoint presentations, unit tests, and practice examinations. The department also encourages experiential learning through practical demonstrations, educational visits, workshops, nutrition awareness programmes, health and hygiene activities, and special lectures on family welfare, sustainable living, and effective household resource management. These initiatives help students connect theoretical knowledge with practical applications in everyday life.

Through these activities, the Department of Home Economics strives to develop life skills, scientific awareness, nutritional literacy, creativity, research aptitude, and a sense of social responsibility among students. The department aims to empower students with the knowledge and competencies required for personal development, family well-being, community service, and professional opportunities in related fields.

The department functions under the guidance of the Principal, Dr. Mahendra Sahare, and the Head of the Department, Dr. Sonali Bansod, with the valuable cooperation of Dr. Afsana Mansuri and Dr. Priti Suryawanshi.
