Department of Economics

The Department of Economics at Lok Mahavidyalaya Wardha has been functioning since the establishment of the college, offering Undergraduate (UG) Education through the B.A. in Economics programme since its inception and Postgraduate (PG) Education through the M.A. in Economics programme since 2005. The department is committed to providing quality education and promoting the holistic development of students. It aims to develop students’ understanding of economic concepts, production, distribution, consumption, economic development, employment generation, financial literacy, and public policies.

The Department undertakes various academic, co-curricular and practical learning activities to enhance students’ knowledge and skills. These include the establishment of the Economics Study Circle, bridge courses for newly admitted students, remedial coaching for slow learners, academic support for advanced learners, assignments, seminars, PowerPoint presentations, unit tests and practice examinations. The Department also organizes Industrial visits, Competitive examination guidance workshops, Share market awareness sessions and Special lectures on the Union Budget to connect theoretical knowledge with Practical Economic Applications.

Our Mission

The Department endeavours to develop learners who can:

• To provide quality education in Economics through effective teaching-learning practices and a student-centred approach.
• To develop students’ analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills for understanding economic issues.
• To promote financial literacy and awareness of Banking, Investment, Share Markets, and Public Finance.
• To encourage research aptitude, independent learning, and the practical application of economic concepts through seminars, industrial visits, workshops, and other academic activities.
• To guide students in preparing for competitive examinations and exploring higher education and career opportunities.
• To create awareness of government economic policies, the Union Budget, employment generation, sustainable development, and socio-economic challenges.
• To nurture responsible citizens who can contribute to social welfare and the economic development of the nation.

Through these initiatives, the Department of Economics strives to Develop Analytical Thinking, Financial awareness, Research aptitude, Career readiness and a Deeper understanding of Contemporary economic issues among students. The Department is guided by the Principal Dr. Mahendra Sahare and the Head of the Department Dr. Mahesh Kombe with the valuable cooperation of Dr. Afsana Mansoori.
